Newton grad

takes honors

WICHITA — Newton grad Jana Boston was named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference setter of the week for the week ending Sunday.

Boston, a junior setter at Friends University, played in six matches last week, 20 sets. Boston had nine kills, 209 assist, 58 digs, five aces and six total blocks.

She had 54 assists in a four-set win over Loyola-New Oreleans.

Friends was 3-3 for the week. The team is 5-5 overall.

Halstead splits

HALSTEAD — The Halstead High School volleyball team split a pair of matches Tuesday at home.

Halstead fell to Pratt in Central Kansas League play 25-19, 25-12; and beat Kingman in non-league play 25-16, 25-23.

Pratt downed Kingman 25-14, 22-25, 25-16.

Halstead is 7-3 and plays Saturday at the Goessel Invitational.

BC women

fall to CCC

The Bethel College women’s soccer team fell to Central Christian College 3-1 Wednesday night at Joe W. Goering Field.

Mariah Godinez, Alexa Riddle and Lisette Whiteside each scored a goal for Central, 3-0.

Samantha Simmons each scored a goal for Bethel. Bekah Tonn added an assist.

Bethel was outshot 15-3, 9-3 on goal. Ashtyn Brown had six saves in goal for Bethel. Charis Ball had two saves for Central.

Bethel is 1-2 and plays Southwestern Christian at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 14 in Bethany, Okla.
