Salina Central broke an 18-game losing streak with a 44-7 win over Goddard Eisenhower. Derby opened the season with a 49-6 win over Garden City.
Derby’s Tre Washington rushed for 109 yards with three touchdowns. Grant Adler passed for 59 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for a third. Isaac Keener had seven total tackles. The Derby defense picked off three passes.
For Central, Jackson Kavanagh passed for 201 yards with two touchdowns. Taylon Peters rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Peters also hit a 33-yard field goal.
Maize (1-0) at Hutchinson (0-1)
Maize opened with a 49-0 drubbing of rival Valley Center, while Hutchinson fell to Wichita West 55-14.
Maize quarterback Caleb Grill passed for 247 yards with three touchdowns. Scott Adams rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Caden Cox added a rushing touchdown. Jordan Helm had six catches for 122 yards. Preven Christon added six catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Dodge City (0-1) at Salina South (0-1)
South was shutout by McPherson 21-0 last week, while Dodge City fell to Campus 47-9.
Dodge City scored on a 25-yard field goal and a blocked kick return.
South was held to 98 yards total offense. Terran Galloway passed for 85 yards. Ty Garrett rushed for 21 yards and had 69 receiving yards. Cai Calvert had 12 total tackles.
