GARDEN CITY — The Newton High School volleyball team is off to a 6-0 start after a sweep Tuesday at Garden City.

The Railers downed Salina Central 25-20, 25-21; and host Garden City 25-23, 14-25, 25-18. Garden City is ranked 10th in Class 6A by the Kansas Volleyball Association coaches poll.

Garden City downed Salina Central 25-11, 25-19.

Saturday, the Railers went 4-0 at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League pre-season tourney at the Salt Hawk Activity Center in Hutchinson.

Newton downed Andover 25-16, 13-25, 26-24; Dodge City 25-8, 25-17; Goddard 25-21, 25-19; and Maize South 28-26, 25-22. Maize South was ranked eighth in Class 5A by the KVA.

Stats from the matches were not available, but according to coach Jamie Dibbens, should be shortly.

Newton returns to play Sept. 11 at home against Campus and Salina South.
