Last week downtown Newton hosted a special night for college students, from 10  to 11:30 p.m. Aug. 23.

The Newton Area Chamber of Commerce partnered with Faith & Life Bookstore, Creation Station, Newton Et Cetera Shop, Prairie Harvest, Bada Bloom Floral, Newton Public Library, Newton Young Professionals, Dillons, White Eagle Credit Union, Kitchen Corner/Main Street Company, Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and Norm’s Coffee Bar to create a special evening filled with food, sales and prizes for college students.

The first 100 college students to present their college identifications at the Chamber booth were awarded a draw string bag stuffed full of donated food items by Chamber members.

Students were each given a blank bingo card — they had to travel to each one of the participating merchant booths downtown to receive a bingo stamp. Once their bingo card was completed (or a blackout bingo) the student’s name was entered in to win a drawing for prizes.

A total of 230 bingo cards were handed out to students and 154 completed bingo cards were handed back in to be entered in the prize drawings.

Students came from Bethel College, Hesston College, Hutchinson Community College, Tabor College and a few other miscellaneous colleges.

Prizes awarded included a Keurig, a Ninja smoothie blender, air pocket sofas, chamber checks, gift cards to local eateries, a free oil change and portable Bluetooth speakers.
