online courses

INDIANAPOLIS — The National Association of State High School Associations is offering three free online courses for coaches, athletes and parents.

The course “Concussion in Sports” is co-sponsored by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

Also offered is “Heat Illness Prevention” and “Sports Nutrition.”

KSHSAA names

winter sites

TOPEKA — The Kansas State High School Activities Association has announced the winter sports championship sites for 2019.

The site changes were prompted by the reduction of basketball championships from eight to six.

In basketball (March 6 to 9), Class 1A is at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, Class 2A is at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, Class 3A is at the Hutchinson Sports Arena, Class 4A is at Tony’s Pizza Event Center in Salina, Class 5A is at White Auditorium in Emporia and Class 6A is at Koch Arena in Wichita.

Bowling remains at Northrock Lanes in Wichita. Class 5-4-3-2-1A is Feb. 28. Class 6A is March 1.

Boys’ swimming and diving remains at the Capitol Federal Natatorium Feb. 14 through 16 at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. Class 5-4-3-2-1A and Class 6A will remain in separate sessions.

Wrestling sites have not changed. Wrestling is Feb. 22 and 23. Class 3-2-1A is at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Class 4A is at Tony’s Pizza Event Center. Class 5A and Class 6A is at Hartman Arena.

Debate is Jan. 11 and 12. Class 3-2-1A and Class 4A are both at Fort Scott High School. Class 5A and Class 6A are both at Garden City High School.

Thunder announces

broadcast extension

WICHITA — The Wichita Thunder announced an extension of its broadcast agreement with the Sin Bin.

The Sin Bin will broadcast via the Internet all 72 Thunder regular-season games, as well as playoff games. The Sin Bin also will host the Malcolm Cameron Coaches Show and the Sin Bin Pregame Show.

Home pre-game shows begin 30 minutes before scheduled faceoffs. Road game pre-game shows begin 25 minutes before faceoff.

The Sin Bin app is available from both the Google Play and iTunes app stores.
