GODDARD — The season came to an end for the Newton High School softball team with a 12-2 loss to Goddard Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 5A regional softball tournament in Goddard.
The game was called after five innings on the 10-run rule.
Goddard opened the game with a nine-run first inning, adding two runs in the second and a run in the fifth.
Newton scored both of its runs in the third inning.
Goddard pitcher Sydni Williams threw a complete-game win, allowing two runs, four hits, a walk and 10 strikeouts. Megan Williams took the loss for Newton, going three innings and allowing four earned runs on 11 hits with three walks. Alex Llamas finished the game, allowing an unearned run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Newton had just two errors, but allowed eight unearned runs.
Brooklyn Gallagher went three for three hitting for Goddard with a home run and four RBIs. Anahi Nunez drove in three runs. Emme Yost drove in two runs. Torri Vang went two for three hitting with an RBI. Kinley Poynter went two for two hitting. Jessie Ornelas went two for three.
Blazee Stahl finished the game two for two hitting for Newton, driving in both Railer runs.
Goddard downed Kapaun-Mt. Carmel 8-0 in the finals and enter state play next week at Maize High School 16-6.
Newton ends the season 0-21.
