AAUW to meet


The Newton Area American Association of University Women will meet at 10 a.m. April 14 at KIPCOR, 2515 College Ave., North Newton.  Guests are invited and welcome.  Val Gleason, CEO of Newton Medical Center, will speak on "Opportunities in Health Care." 


Bank to host shred day

Shred old documents and protect personal identifying information at First Bank's Spring Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon  April 21  in the parking lot located at 1801 W. First Street in Newton (Corner of S. Meridian and W. First Street).

Shred-it will perform on-site secure document destruction.  Any type of paper, envelopes, folders or binders may be shredded. Rubber bands, staples and paper clips do not need to be removed. The cost of this event is underwritten by First Bank. For large commercial shreds please contact First Bank prior to April 21.

NMC to host advance care planning event

Newton Medical Center, along with other national, state and community organizations, recognizes April 16 as National Healthcare Decisions Day. NHDD is a national initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.

In recognition of NHDD, NMC will hold a free discussion on advance care planning. The event will take place from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the Newton YMCA. Attendees will have the opportunity to view clips of the Emmy-nominated documentary, “Consider the Conversation 2: Stories about Cure, Relief, and Comfort.”
