Playing under challenging conditions that included snow and rain, the Bethel College golf team finished 13th out of 15 teams Saturday and Sunday at the Bethel Invitational.

Saturday’s round was played at the Hesston Golf Course. Sunday’s round was played at Sand Creek Station.

Hannibal-LaGrange College won the team title with a score of 590, beating Ottawa by nine strokes. Jamestown was third at 601, followed by Oklahoma Wesleyan at 603 and Hastings at 604.

Conor Brady of Hannibal-LaGrange and Matt Rees of Hastings tied for top medalist honors at even-par 143. Brady had the low score at Hesston with a two-under 69. Rees had the low score at Sand Creek Station with a one-under 71.

Connor Preston of Dakota Wesleyan was third at 144.

Bethel was led by Sam Bertholf, who tied for 42nd at 158. Bertholf shot a three-over 74 at Hesston.

Connor Mickens shot a 162, followed by Parker Austin at 166, Chase Anderson at 169 and Chase Sparks at 177.

Hesston College sent three golfers to the tournament, one short of a team score. Ryan Vernon tied for 42nd at 158, followed by Sam Sowers at 169 and Garrett Roth at 194.

Hesston returns to Sand Creek Station April 22 through 24 for the NJCAA Region VI Championships.

Newton High grad Tanner Pauls, playing for the Ottawa B team, finished tied for 48th with a 159.

Bethel got no rest as the Threshers competed Monday in the first round of the Sterling Invitational at Carey Park in Hutchinson.

After the first round of play, Bethe is in fourth at 307. Sterling leads at 284, followed by Kansas Wesleyan at 293 and Kansas Wesleyan B at 300. CC is fifth at 311.

Matthew Smith of Sterling leads the tourney with a one-under 69, followed by teammate Jin Ho (Peter) Choi at 70.

Bethel is led by Austin with a team record 72 for the course, good for fifth place after the first day.

Mickens is tied for 12th at 77. Bertholf is 19th at 78. Anderson shot an 80 and Sparks shot an 86.

The final round is today.
