WBJ honors area students
A group of more than 40 Wichita-area high school students will be recognized for their classroom achievement and community involvement in the first Young Achievers Awards, a program of the Wichita Business Journal.
A group of 46 honorees will be feted during a May 2 event at the Hyatt Regency Wichita. The group includes five students from Harvey County.
Tanner Duerksen of Newton High School, Makaiya Russell of Hesston High School, Jonathan Hinojos of Hesston High School, Magdalena McKee of Halstead High School and Caileen Walters of Halstead High School each will be honored.
Guard unit to be deployed
Soldiers of the 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 137th Infantry Regiment and Battery C, 1st Battalion 161st Field Artillery will bid farewell to family and friends during a deployment ceremony at 10 a.m. April 6 at the Kansas Expocentre Exhibition Hall in Topeka.
The 2-137th, headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas, and Battery C, 1-161st FA, headquartered in Newton, will deploy as part of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team, Mississippi National Guard, for a year-long mission to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Spartan Shield.
Driver's Ed enrollment coming up
There will be a meeting for Newton High School Driver’s Education enrollment at 7 p.m. April 11 in the Newton High School Auditorium.
Information about enrolling in Driver’s Ed at Newton High School will be given.
Students, as well as parents, should plan to attend. Students must be 14 years of age prior to taking driver’s ed. For more information, questions, please call Charlie Triggs at 316-772-2396.
