ARKANSAS CITY — Bethel College senior Kyle Wilson hit the NAIA B (provisional) qualifying standard in the shot put Saturday at the Tiger Track and Field Invitational Saturday at the Cowley Community College track complex.
Wilson took fourth at 15.37 meters (50-5 3/4), breaking the B qualifying mark of 15.25 meters. He needs a throw of 15.60 meters to reach the automatic qualifying mark. Wilson qualified for nationals last season.
Wilson took third in the discus in 43.09 meters (141-4).
"Kyle had a pretty good day," Bethel coach Jeff Hoskisson said. "It is nice to get the qualifying mark out of the way early in the season. Now he can focus on the technical things that he and Coach (Terri) Anderson have been working on in practice."
Freshman Jennifer Andres took second in the women’s 100-meter dash in 12.23 and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.63.
Lori White was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 13.21, followed by Destiny Joseph in 10th in 13.29. White was 10th in the 200-meter dash in 27.45, followed by Joseph in 14th in 27.90.
Veronica Ziegler was third in the women’s long jump in 4.88 meters (16-0 1/4).
Gabriele Westrich took seventh in the women’s hammer throw in 23.35 meters (76-7) and eighth in the javelin in 17.24 meters (56-7).
Heath Goertzen finished third in the triple jump in 12.63 meters (41-5 1/4).
Bruce Rosario finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.74 and eighth in the men’s 100-meter dash in 11.08.
Adam Sigwing finished ninth in the 400-meter dash in 52.37.
Peter King was 12th in the shot put in 10.79 meters (35-5), followed by Josh Jackson in 17th in 8.26 meters (27-1 1/4). King was 11th in the javelin in 23.79 meters (78-1).
Robert Graham placed 11th in the discus in 31.12 meters (102-1), followed by Jackson in 14th in 22.33 meters (73-3).
Graham finished seventh in the hammer throw in 38.64 meters (126-9).
Bethel competes Saturday at the EV Kohls Grizzly Classic at the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in El Dorado.
SALINA — The Bethel College tennis team split with Kansas Wesleyan Monday in Salina.
The Bethel women won 8-1, winning their 10th straight match. The Bethel men had an eight-match winning streak end with a 7-2 loss to Kansas Wesleyan.
The Bethel women are 10-1, 3-0 in KCAC matches. The Bethel men are 8-2, 2-1 in KCAC play.
Bethel hosts Southwestern at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
