PRATT — While it was a historic day for the hopes and aspirations of the Hesston High School baseball team, it also was a rough one.
The Swathers made their debut as a program with a pair of 10-0 losses to Pratt Tuesday in Central Kansas League play in Pratt.
Both games ended after six innings on the 10-run rule.
In the first game, two Pratt pitchers held the Swathers to one hit. Grant Bolen went four innings for the win, allowing a hit, walking one and striking out six. A.J. Arensdorf went two innings, striking out two.
Cameron Cox went five innings for Hesston in the loss, allowing nine unearned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikouts. Jared Nelson finished the game, allowing a run on two hits.
Hesston was charged with six innings. Pratt scored five runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.
Travis Thies went three for four hitting for Pratt, driving in two runs. Arensdorf also drove in two runs.
Cox had the first hit in Hesston history.
In the second game, Pratt scored five runs in the third inning, adding a run each in the fourth and fifth innings and putting the game away with three runs in the sixth inning.
Thies went 4.1 innings for the win, allowing two hits and four strikeouts. Justin Lamatsch finished the game, allowing a hit with two strikeouts.
Bolen went two for three hitting with two RBIs. Lamatsch went two for four with two RBIs. Arensdorf also drove in two runs. Landon Struder went three for four hitting with an RBI. Hunter Huber went two for three with an RBI.
Cameron Cox, Matt Whitsitt and Brendan Boles each had a hit for the Swathers.
Brady Cox went four innings in the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Jackson Humphreys finished the game, allowing four runs on six hits with three walks.
Hesston inaugurates its new baseball field at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Lyons.
