It has been announced by Bethel College Athletic Director Tony Hoops that Victor Garcia-Bebek has resigned as head men's soccer coach, effective March 26.
Garcia-Bebek coached the Threshers for one season, finishing with a record of 7-11 (3-8 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference).
"I want to thank Bethel for the opportunities of personal and professional growth provided me during my time here," Garcia-Bebek said. "I have enjoyed working for the college."
From 2002-2015, Garcia-Bebek was on the soccer coaching staffs at Newman University and Friends University, both in Wichita.
At Newman, he served as assistant men's coach, 2002-2009, and head women's coach, 2012-15. In between, he was head women's coach at Friends.
"Victor did a tremendous job with our soccer program this past season, taking over in early August in a very difficult situation as a late hire," Hoops said. "He came in prepared, with great attention to detail, from his first day here on campus.
Garcia-Bebek won seven of his first 10 games as Bethel coach before finishing 7-11 overall.
"The start that our team had at 7-3 this past season was very special, and I credit Victor for creating a winning culture of trust by players he did not recruit or know before," Hoops said. "I wish Victor all the best in his future career endeavors. He will be missed by our Bethel coaching family."
A search for a replacement will begin immediately, "with a heavy emphasis on hiring a coach to bring coaching stability to the men's soccer program.=," Hoops said.
