MOUNDRIDGE — With nearly 30 athletes out, the Moundridge High School track team will be one of its deeper squads.
Brian Holloway begins his eighth season as the Wildcats coach.
The Moundridge girls were 15th at state last year, while the boys were 18th.
Returning state medalists for the girls include junior Jamya O’Quinn (2nd 100, 2nd 200, 5th 4x100), junior Ellika Ptacek (7th 300 LH, 5th 4x100), sophomore Josalyn O’Quinn (5th 4x100) and sophomore Makayla Blair (5th 4x100).
Top returnees for the boys include senior Mason Dyck (6th javelin, SQ 4x100), senior Damian Calderon (6th pole vault, SQ 4x100, 4x400, 4x800), senior Jared Kaufman (SQ 4x400), junior Kevin Vivanco (SQ 4x100, 4x400), junior Dillon Vogts (9th 3,200, SQ 4x800) and sophomore Dan Kaufman (SQ 4x800),
“I thoroughly expect our upperclassmen to return to state and better their places from last year,” Holloway said. “Jamya has a real chance to bring home two golds in the short sprints. As does Ellika in the 300 hurdles.”
