The Bethel College softball team opened the season with a split against Bethany in KCAC play at Allen Wedel Field.

Bethel won the first game 6-2, but lost the second game 4-3.

In the first game, Bethel put runners at first and third base with no outs in the bottom of the first. Madison McDowell grounded out to score a run. Katie Schrag followed with an RBI single.

Bethany loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second inning. After a 1-2-3 double play, Hannah Price hit a two-run single.

With bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, McDowell hit an RBI single, followed by a two-run single for Katie Schrag. After a walk re-loaded the bases and an infield pop fly provided the second out, Lizzy Mills drew a walk in six pitches to drive in a run.

Bethany loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. After a fly out to third base, a strikeout ended the game with no further damage.

Katie Schrag went two for three with three RBIs. Jordan Hill went three for four hitting for Bethel. Leslie Hoffman went two for four.

Bethel starter Raegan Beckley went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Rylie Scudder finished the game for the win, improving to 5-1, allowing one hit, three walks and four strikeouts.

Ashley Nava (2-4) took the loss for Bethany, allowing five runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Lauren Quintana finished the game, allowing two walks.

Bethany opened the scoring in the second game with a run in the top of the fifth on a Hannah Price sacrifice fly. Bethel came back in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out RBI single for Michelle Schrag. Bethel added a run on an error.

Bethany loaded the bases with one out in the top of the sixth. Nicole Pendleton tied the game with an RBI single. Taylor Wurtz grounded into a fielder’s choice to score a run. Courtney Fudge also singled to score a run.

In the bottom of the sixth, Bethel had a Jeni Reichenberger double and a Kerrigan Simons single to put runners at first and third. After a strikeout and a force out, McDowell singled to score a run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bethel was retired in order.

Bethel starter Baileigh Rager went four innings, allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Alix Gallop (1-1) went two innings for the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with a strikeout. Scudder finished the game, allowing a hit and a strikeout.

Mills finished the game two for two hitting. McDowell went three for four. Reichenberger went two for four. Katie Schrag went zero for zero in four plate appearances, getting hit twice by pitches and drawing two walks.

For Bethany, Marisa Jervis (2-7) went five innings and allowed two runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Quintana finished the game for the save, allowing a hit and a strikeout.

Ciera Flores went three for four hitting for Bethany. Pendleton went two for three with an RBI. Fudge went two for four with an RBI. Alyssa Montoya went two for four.

Bethany is 10-22, 1-1 in conference, snapping a three-game losing streak.

Bethel is 10-11 overall and hosts Friends at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Falcons are 9-14 and has yet to open conference play.
