HUTCHINSON — The Hesston College softball team dropped a pair of games to Hutchinson Community College Tuesday in NJCAA Division II, Region VI play at the Fun Valley Sports Complex in Hutchinson.

Hesston dropped the first game 8-4 and the second game 10-7.

Hutchinson entered the games ranked 18th in the NJCAA Division II polls.

Hesston led the first game 2-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, but Brynne Stockman hit a two-out, two-run triple for Hutchinson. In the bottom of the fifth, Raven Bass hit a two-run home run, followed by a Kiara DeCrane solo shot. DeCrane hit another home run in the sixth inning.

Ashley Yasin took the loss for Hesston, striking out seven.

DeCrane finished the game three for three hitting with two RBIs and a walk. Stockman finished two for three. Kameron Pope and Shelby Felvus each added an RBI for the Blue Dragons.

D.J. Cannon struck out 10 for the win, improving to 8-0.

In the second game, Hesston led 3-0, but Hutchinson scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hutchinson added five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Hesston scored three runs in the sixth inning to get within a run. Cannon and Cassidy Prucha each had RBI hits in the bottom of the sixth.

Ashton Reynolds, Stockman, Pope, Cannon and Prucha each had two hits for Hutchinson. Stockman pitched 2.2 innings of relief for the win. Cannon pitched two innings for the save.

Hutchinson is 14-2, 3-1 in Region VI play. Hesston is 16-9, 1-3 in region play.

Hesston hosts Labette Community College at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by Coffeyville Community College at noon Saturday.
