McPHERSON — After a rough start Friday with three losses at the McPherson Invitational, the Bethel College softball team rebounded with a pair of wins in Saturday’s play.
Bethel stopped Hastings 7-4 and Langston 5-0. Bethel’s win over Langston was the Thresher’s first shutout of the season.
Against Hastings, the Threshers trailed 3-0 after four innings. Bethel took the lead with six runs in the top of the fifth and added a run in the seventh. Hastings also scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jordan Hill, Krystin McKelpin and Michelle Schrag each drove in two runs. Alyssa Sullivan had a pinch-hit RBI hit for the Threshers. McKelpin and Michelle Schrag each went two for three hitting.
Rylie Scudder threw 3.2 innings for the win, allowing a run on three hits with a strikeout. Starter Baleigh Rager allowed three runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
Josie Bumgartner took the loss for Hastings, allowing seven runs on nine hits with six walks and eight strikeouts.
Corrin Ziepke went two for two with an RBI for 3-11 Hastings. Bumgartner went two for four with an RBI. Sara Specht drove in two runs.
The win was Bethel’s third over Hastings this season.
Against Langston, Bethel scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second.
Bethel used three pitchers in the game, starter Madison McDowell allowed four hits in three innings with a walk and five strikeouts. Alex Gallop went the next three innings for the win, allowing a hit. Raegan Beckley pitched the seventh, giving up a hit and striking out three.
Kenya Grauberger took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
Alexis Wilson went two for two hitting for Bethel with two RBIs. McDowell also drove in a run.
Monique Collins went three for four hitting for Langston, 7-9. Sloan Rios went two for four.
Langston left nine runners on base.
Bethel is 9-10 and opens KCAC play at 1 p.m. March 21 at home against Bethany. The Swedes are currently 8-16.
