The Charles Olson Memorial Scholarship was founded 1968 and was formed to assist Newton High School music students with the study of music. This marks the 50th year that the scholarship fund has sponsored young instrumental musicians in private study. As many as twenty-two students have received scholarships from this fund in one fiscal year. In less abundant years, that number has dropped as low as four.

The scholarship fund is supported entirely by tax-deductible contributions from individuals and organizations, including fundraisers such as the Olson Home Tour and Olson Jazz Concert.
