HILLSBORO — The Moundridge High School boys’ basketball team took a little too long to get the offense going in a 61-50 loss to Hillsboro Friday night in the Class 2A sub-state semifinals in Hillsboro.

Moundridge trailed 11-6 after the first quarter and 24-11 at the half. Down by 19 after three quarters, Moundridge won the fourth 28-20.

“We got off to a shaking start and trailed 8-0 before we could score and that certainly dictated how the rest of the game would be played,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “Disappointed that we couldn't be at full strength with Brady Helm out because of a sprained ankle on Tuesday night. Dan (Kaufman) did a great job but so much of what we do is aided with an inside presence that Brady has given us. But all the other guys played their tails off and never quit. So proud of our seniors for being great leaders and role models for our younger guys. Such high character guys. Good locker room guys who practiced and played hard. Gonna miss them but they will be successful because of what they are. Looking forward to getting all of our returning players to commit to an off-season of individual skill development so that we can continue the fine tradition of basketball that exists here at Moundridge.”

Darian Ratzlaff led 16-5 Hillsboro with 17 points. Wes Shaw scored 14 points with 11 rebounds. Caleb Potucek scored 14 points and Elias Werth added 11.

Noah Eichelberger led Moundridge with 24 points and nine rebounds. Dillon Vogts added 10 points.

Moundridge ends the season 13-8.
