HESSTON — The Hesston High School girls’ basketball team hit 20 of 33 free throws to post a 52-44 win over Hutchinson Trinity Tuesday in the Class 3A quarterfinals in Hesston.

Trinity was eight of 17 from the line.

Hesston led 11-8 after the first quarter, 26-19 at the half and 40-33 after three quarters.

Elise Kaiser led Hesston with 15 points, followed by Alaina Dunlavy with 14.

Elizabeth Zrubek scored 17 points for Trinity, 9-11.

Hesston is 17-4 and takes on top-seeded Sterling at 6 p.m. Friday at Sedgwick.

HALSTEAD — The Halstead Dragon girls used an 18-9 third quarter to pull away from Remington 58-42 Tuesday in the Class 3A sub-state quarterfinals in Halstead.

Halstead led 24-15 at the half.

Kayla Newman led Halstead with 24 points. Freshmen Karenna Gerber scored 12 and Madi McClain added 11.

Sienna Schmidt scored 15 points for Remington. Morgan Thunberg scored 10.

Remington ends the season 7-13. Halstead is 18-2 and faces Haven at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Sedgwick in the semifinals.

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School girls’ basketball team jumped ahead early and kept pulling away for a 52-32 win over Wheat State League rival Canton-Galva Monday night in Class 2A sub-state quarterfinal play in Goessel.

Goessel led 16-10 after the first quarter and 30-18 at the half. The Bluebirds led by 20 after three quarters.

Eden Hiebert led Goessel with 19 points. Brittney Hiebert added 10.

Alexa Bell scored 12 points for Canton-Galva, which ends the season 9-11.

Goessel is 16-4 and plays Berean Academy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro in the semifinals.

HILLSBORO — The Goessel High School boys’ basketball team fell to Hillsboro 64-24 Tuesday in the Class 2A sub-state quarterfinals in Hillsboro.

Hillsboro led 40-16 at the half.

Elias Werth led Hillsboro with 18 points, followed by Wes Shaw with 16 and Darian Ratzlaff with 11.

Goessel was led by Dylan Lindeman with eight points.

Goessel ends the season 3-17.

Hillsboro is 15-5 and hosts Moundridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcat boys got past Herington 65-33 Tuesday in the Class 2A sub-state quarterfinals in Moundridge.

The Wildcats led 15-8 after the first quarter and 38-19 at the half.

“Always good to get that first sub-state game played and advance,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “With (Brady) Helms going out early with an ankle injury we had to have others play and I was pleased with the poise of some of our younger guys, Collin Kohl specifically, who gave us some quality minutes. The next round will present more of a challenge especially if we don't have an inside presence.”

Dillon Vogts scored 24 points for Moundridge. Noah Eichelberger scored 19.

Keegan Osbum scored 12 points for Herington, 6-14.

Moundridge is 13-8 and faces Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at Hillsboro.
