MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcats were upended by Heart of America League rival Inman 45-43 Monday night in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A sub-state tournament in Moundridge.

Moundridge led 23-15 at the half and 39-27 after three quarters, but was outscored 18-4 in the fourth quarter.

Inman, 12-8, was led by Bailey Jo Ediger with 13 points.

Kourtney Kaufman led Moundridge with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Moundridge was hampered by six of 15 free throw shooting. Inman was seven of 15 from the line.

Moundridge ends the season 13-8.

ELBING — The Berean Academy girls’ basketball team used a 13-2 third quarter to get by Hillsboro 50-28 Monday in Class 2A sub-state play in Elbing.

Berean trailed 11-9 after the first quarter, but led 18-16 at the half. The Warriors continued to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Mallory Wiebe led Berean with 17 points, followed by Brooke Wiebe with 15.

Teegan Werth scored 10 points for Hillsboro, 8-12.

Berean is 16-5 and plays Goessel at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillsboro in the semifinals.

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School girls’ basketball team jumped ahead early and kept pulling away for a 52-32 win over Wheat State League rival Canton-Galva Monday night in Class 2A sub-state quarterfinal play in Goessel.

Goessel led 16-10 after the first quarter and 30-18 at the half. The Bluebirds led by 20 after three quarters.

Eden Hiebert led Goessel with 19 points. Brittney Hiebert added 10.

Alexa Bell scored 12 points for Canton-Galva, which ends the season 9-11.

Goessel is 16-4 and plays Berean Academy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro in the semifinals.

HESSTON — The Sedgwick Cardinal boys pulled off a shocker in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A sub-state tournament with a 55-53 win over Hesston Monday night in Hesston.

Sedgwick trailed 29-26 at the half, but tied the game 39-39 after three quarters. Both teams hot five of six from the line in the fourth quarter.

Brayden Francis led Sedgwick with 20 points, followed by Neal Bever with 19.

Reese Nebel led Hesston with 18 points. Cameron Cox scored 11.

Hesston ends the season 16-5.

Sedgwick is 12-9 and hosts Sterling at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.
