With school being called off for Newton USD 373 for today, the Newton-Maize basketball games are in doubt.

The games were scheduled for Tuesday, but inclement weather forced postponement until Wednesday.

The threat of more ice, which did come into the area Wednesday evening forced another postponement.

While no official word on the status of the game has been made, usually when school has been called off, evening activities are also postponed or canceled.

If the game can’t be played Thursday, it will likely be canceled or played Saturday, the final day regular-season games can be played.

Newton is scheduled to host Salina Central Friday.

Other area games scheduled for Thursday include Haven at Halstead, Sterling at Hesston, Berean Academy at Marion and Sedgwick at Argonia.

Hesston, Halstead and Sedgwick have closed for Thursday. Halstead announced its game has been postponed. Berean Academy will have a two-hour delay.

The Bethel-Dordt softball game scheduled for Friday also has been postponed with no make-up date set.

Updates will be on www.thekansan.com, as well as the Kansan Facebook page and the Kansan Sports Twitter page as they are received.
