NRC hires sports director

The Newton Recreation Commission recently named Brian Davis as sports director.

Davis is a graduate of Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration. Davis comes to Newton from KANSASWORKS, where he worked with At-Risk Youth to become employed and completing their education. Davis also had previously worked as a Programs Director with the Parsons Recreation Commission. Davis is a certified official in several sports.

Davis will be in charge of all youth and adult sports programming for the NRC.


Group raises funds for Kidron

Friends of Kidron, the auxiliary group of Kidron Bethel Village, a Bluestem community, raised $12,619 in 2017 for the Health Care Benevolent Fund. The fund assists Kidron residents who can no longer cover the full cost of their care.

The group looks forward to another successful year ahead with hopes to have more Newton community members join them in their mission.

To raise funds for the Health Care Benevolent Duns and promote community involvement at Kidron Bethel Village, Friends of Kidron hosts several community events throughout the year. These events include the annual Fireworks Extravaganza on July 4, Country Breakfast on Oct. 6 and Holiday Marketplace on Dec. 1


Westar to host call
