FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Wichita Thunder gave up five goals in the third period, falling to the Fort Wayne Komets 9-3 Wednesday in ECHL play at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne.

Wichita led 2-1 after the first period, but gave up three goals in the second.

Gariel Desjardins scored two goals for the Komets. Mason Baptista, Marc-Olivier Roy, Shawn Szydowski, Louick Marcotte and Sol Cody each scored a goal with an assist. Justin MacDonald and Trevor Creek each scored a goal.

Dennis Kravchenko had three assists. Leonard Curtis. Bobby Shea, Garrett Thompson and Justin Hodgman each had two assists.

Ralph Cuddemi had two goals for Wichita. Chad Butcher scored a goal with an assist.

Fort Wayne outshot Wichita 48-37. Shane Starrett had 36 saves on 43 shots for Wichita. Nick Riopel played the final 11:47, stopping three of five shots.

Garrett Bartus stopped 34 of 37 shots in goal for the Komets.

Fort Wayne is 30-13-3-0, two points out of first place in the ECHL Central Division.

Wichita is 25-17-3-0, fourth place in the Mountain Division, 13 points out of first.

Wichita and Fort Wayne play again at 7 p.m. Friday at Fort Wayne.
