HESSTON — The Hesston Swather girls’ basketball team, paced by a 19-4 second quarter, downed Nickerson 54-33 Tuesday in Central Kansas League play in Hesston.

The Swathers led 12-10 after the first quarter and 31-14 at the half.

Kailey Jo Ince led Hesston with 17 points, followed by Elise Kaiser with 10.

Morgan Stout led Nickerson with nine points. Nickerson falls to 8-7, 5-2 in CKL play.

GOESSEL — The Goessel High School girls’ basketball team clinched a share of the Wheat State League title with a 66-28 win over Herington Tuesday in Goessel.

Goessel led 36-13 at the half.

Eden Hiebert scored 30 points for Goessel, hitting 10 of 18 from the field, including five of six from 3-point range. She added 12 rebounds for the double-double.

Brittney Hiebert added 12 points.

Herington was led by Carrie Roe with 14 points. Herington drops to 5-11, 2-6 in WSL play.

Goessel is 13-3, 8-0 in WSL play. Goessel closes out league play Friday at home against Peabody-Burns.

Payton Froese led Inman with 23 points. Mason Thiessen scored 12 points and Jaxson Eddy scored 10. Inman is 7-8, 3-4 in HOAL play.

BENNINGTON — The Bennington Bulldog boys downed the Moundridge Wildcats 51-39 Tuesday in HOAL play in Bennington.

Bennington led 23-22 at the half and 32-30 after three quarters. The Bulldogs hit 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter. Bennington outscored Moundridge 12-0 from the free throw line for the game.

Bennington avenges a 61-40 loss to Moundridge at the Canton-Galva Invitational.

Josh Juenemann led Bennington with 16 points, followed by J.J. Allen with 14 and Devin Feil with 12. Bennington is 13-3, 6-1 in HOAL play.

Dillon Vogts led Moundridge with 20 points. Noah Eichelberger scored 13 points.

“We played hard and had a chance,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “The lead for either team was never more than five points until the mid fourth quarter when Bennington hit back to back threes and that was a killer. Dealing with size again tonight in their 6-10 post (Juenamann) and a couple of really good guards and a team of athletes. We will get back after it tomorrow. Still believe in this team.”

Moundridge is 9-7, 2-5 in HOAL play. Moundridge plays Friday at rival Inman.
