Moundridge 78, Marion 69

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcat boys won their fifth straight game, stopping Marion 78-69 Tuesday in HOAL play in Moundridge.

Moundridge led 35-28 at the half and 54-46 after three quarters. The Wildcats hit 59 percent from the field (29 of 49), while Marion was 49 percent (26 of 53). Moundridge outscored Marion 39-15 from 3-point range. The Wildcats hit 13 of 20 3-pointers.

“I told our kids that Marion was going to be a challenge for us tonight and I was right,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “They have size and they are athletic. We had a nice run at the end of the second quarter that gave us a lead and momentum going into halftime. We shot it well tonight and it's a good thing because we made a lot of mistakes defensively that we have to correct for us to be where we want to be in March. We were out-rebounded and I am especially not happy about giving up 10 offensive rebounds, We have to be in better position and we have to be hungrier going after the ball. We have another tough game on Friday when Hutch Trinity Catholic comes to town. Need to find a way to stop another team with size.”

Dillon Vogts scored 36 points for Moundridge, hitting nine of 10 3-pointers, followed by Noah Eichelberger with 31.

Chase Stringer led Marion with 19 points, followed by Sam Zinn with 14, Evan Heidebrecht with 12 and Zach Stuchlik with 11.
