ELBING — Daphne Williams scored 18 points to lead the Halstead Dragons to a 34-31 win over host Berean Academy in the championship game of the 51st Eli J. Walter Invitational girls’ basketball tournament in Elbing.

Halstead led 10-6 after the first quarter, but Berean took a 15-14 lead at the half and a 25-21 lead after three quarters.

Halstead made a 13-6 run in the fourth quarter. Halstead was five of six from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, while Berean went two for six.

Brooke Wiebe led Berean Academy with 12 points.

Halstead, 12-1, wins the Walter Invitational title for the second straight year. The Dragons host Lyons today.

Berean, 10-2, plays today at Remington.

ELBING — Trailing most of the game, the Goessel Bluebirds rallied in the second half for a 43-41 win Saturday in the third-place game of the Walter Invitational.

Trinity led 18-10 after the first quarter and 24-20 at the half. Goessel trailed 36-34 after the third quarter but held Trinity to five points in the final period to claim the win.

Eden Hiebert scored 19 points for Goessel, followed by Brittney Hiebert with 11.

Elsa Cozine scored 16 points for Trinity Academy, 7-6.

Goessel is 10-3 and resumes Wheat State League play today at Little River.

Minneapolis led 20-10 at the half. Minneapolis held a 21-0 advantage in 3-point scoring.

Kersti Nelson scored 19 points for 3-10 Minneapolis, followed by Faythe Korinek with 14.

Shelby Little led 5-9 Douglass with 10 points.

Lindsey Kauffman scored 10 points for 7-6 Central.

Amarani Salgado led Burrton with 11 points.
