Police are investigating a reported incident of an intruder using Mace on a Newton resident in the 100 Block of E. Third.

"There were signs in the house that mace was used," said Lt. Scott Powell with the Newton Police Department. "There was mace all over the inside of the house."

The incident reportedly occurred at about 6 a.m. Jan. 29 when a female Newton resident returned to her home after taking her domestic partner to work.

She told police when she went into her home, she saw a man in the home. Described at 5 feet, 10 inches with a medium build and wearing a facemask and gloves, the intruder allegedly sprayed the woman with Mace. She fled the home.

The intruder allegedly fled the home shortly after with nothing in his hands.

The woman reported a television stolen from the home when reporting the incident to police.

The case is under investigation by the police department and no arrests have been made.
