PREP BOYS

Moundridge 40, Goessel 29

GOESSEL — The Moundridge Wildcat boys made runs in the second and third quarters to down rival Goessel 40-29 Friday in non-league play in Goessel.

Goessel led 10-5 after the first quarter, but the Wildcats surged to a 19-15 lead at the half and outscored the Bluebirds 9-2 in the third quarter.

Noah Eichelberger led Moundridge with 18 points. Dylan Lindeman scored 13 points for Goessel, followed by Jordan Griffin with 10.

“We had a hard time getting going tonight which was total opposite of how things went for us at the Canton-Galva Tournament,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “No energy in the half court offense or defense early combined with some tough shooting luck put us out of sync and we let some things bother us tonight. Tonight was trap game for us as we came off of a very successful week. Fortunately we found enough offense and some key stops to get us an ugly win. I have to give a lot of credit to Goessel and their coaching staff for having their kids ready to play. They have a couple of nice players in Lindeman and Griffin who gave their team a chance tonight. We will take it but it certainly should give us a clue that we aren't where we need and want to be.”

Goessel is 2-11 and plays Tuesday at Little River.

Moundridge is 7-4 and hosts Marion Tuesday.
