WICHITA — The Newton High School boys’ and girls’ bowling teams opened the season with third-place finishes at a triangular Tuesday hosted by Campus at Seneca Bowl in Wichita.

The Campus boys won the meet at 2,645, followed by Salina South at 2,562 and Newton at 2,212. The Campus girls won at 2,487, followed by Salina South at 1,995 and Newton at 1,940.

In the boys’ competition, John Quigg of Campus had the high series of 684, followed by Dane VanAtta of South at 667 and Titus Terrill of Campus at 662.

William Day of Campus had the high game of 266, followed by Quigg at 256 and VanAtta at 244.

Newton was led by Brett Ashcraft at 604, followed by Hervey Medina at 583, Joey Gile at 550, Treyton Rice at 443, Kobe Burns at 441 and Bryce Nicholson at 401.

Ashcraft had Newton’s high game of 241.

Campus swept the girls’ competition, led by Taylor Cessna at 616, Jordyn Wattman at 615 and Piper Reams at 610.

Newton’s Jenna Baldwin had the high game of 231, followed by Lauren Lust of South at 226 and Audrey Ehlert of Campus at 223.

Baldwin led Newton at 591, followed by Adriana Lettau at 460, Katy Clanton at 453, Shelby Wolfe at 436, McKayla Garton at 322 and Tiffany Steffi at 303.

Baldwin also had a 200 game.

Newton competes at 3 p.m. today at All-Star Lanes in Salina with Salina Central, Salina Sacred Heart and Derby.
