ELBING — Grace Thompson scored 22 points to lift the Sedgwick Cardinal girls to a 41-31 win over eighth-ranked (KBCA, Class 2A) Berean Academy Tuesday in Heart of America League play at Elbing.

Sedgwick led 16-7 after the first quarter and 26-16 at the half. The Cardinals increased their lead to 11 after three quarters.

Remington outscored Berean 21-9 from 3-point range.

Sydney Hilliard scored 11 points for the Cardinals, 5-4 overall and 2-1 in HOAL play.

Courtney Slabach scored 14 points for Berean, 8-1 overall and 2-1 in HOAL play.

Berean hosts Ell-Saline Friday. Sedgwick hosts Moundridge Friday.

Kaela Helms led Moundridge with 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Bethany Stucky added 10 points.

BRAINERD — The Remington Bronco girls fell to Marion 42-29 Tuesday in HOAL play at Remington.

Marion avenges a 42-33 loss to Remington at the Marion Classic.

Kourtney Hansen led Marion, 6-2 overall and 2-0 in league play, with 17 points, followed by Alli Molleker with 13.

Remington’s scoring was not available.

Remington falls to 2-6, 0-3 in HOAL play, and plays Friday at Sterling.

GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebird girls jumped out to a big lead early and held on for a 52-22 win over Canton-Galva Tuesday in Wheat State League play in Goessel.

The Bluebirds led 31-13 at the half.

Eden Hiebert scored 16 points for Goessel, followed by Britney Hiebert with 10.

Tia Moddelmog led Canton-Galva with nine points. The Eagles fall to 3-6, 1-2 in WSL play.

Goessel is 7-1, 4-0 in WSL play. Goessel hosts Elyria Christian Friday.

GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebird boys picked up their first win of the year, stopping Canton-Galva 47-28 Tuesday in Wheat State League play in Goessel.

Goessel snaps an eight-game losing streak that dates back to last season.

Goessel led 17-4 after the first quarter and 22-14 at the half. A 16-2 third quarter ensured the Bluebird win.

Dylan Lindeman led Goessel with 18 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Jordan Griffin with 16 points.

Jonah Sargent scored 11 points for Canton-Galva, 1-7 overall and 0-3 in WSL play.

Goessel is 1-7, 1-3 in WSL play, and hosts top-ranked (KBCA, Class 1A, Division II) Elyria Christian Friday.

MOUNDRIDGE — The Moundridge Wildcat boys held off Ell-Saline 52-46 Tuesday in Heart of America League play in Moundridge.

The Wildcats led 13-11 after the first quarter, 29-25 at the half and 41-32 after three quarters.

“We never really found a groove tonight,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “Ell-Saline is very athletic and physical and we knew that they would pound the glass and they did. We allowed too many offensive rebounds, didn't get enough loose balls and gave up dribble penetration. We didn't make good in-game adjustments and didn't execute in the half court game. Not saying we didn't play hard because I think we did. An ugly win but we will take it. Going to have to play much better Friday night at Sedgwick.”

Noah Eichelberger led Moundridge with 22 points. Dillon Vogts added 12 points and nine rebounds. Brady Helms scored 10 points.

Ted Phelps led Ell-Saline with 14 points, followed by Hunter Kindlesparger with 12. Ell-Saline falls to 3-6, 1-2 in HOAl play.

Moundridge is 4-3, 1-2 in HOAL play, and plays Friday at Sedgwick.

ELBING — The Berean Academy boys’ basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 58-45 win over Sedgwick Tuesday in HOAL play in Elbing.

The Warriors led 14-9 after the first quarter and 28-20 at the half. The Cardinals got within six points after three quarters, but got outscored 14-7 in the fourth.

Caleb Bisterfeldt led Berean with 15 points, followed by Devin Rust with 14.

Neal Bever led Sedgwick with 19 points, followed by Trey Bright with 12.
