ELGIN, Ill. — The Bethel College women’s basketball team was held to 17 points in the second half, falling to Governors State (Ill.) 68-45 Saturday in the Judson University Classic in Elgin.

The loss was the 10th straight for the Threshers.

Bethel finished the game 14 of 52 from the field for 27 percent, four of 23 from 3-point range.

Governors State went 27 of 57 from the field for 47 percent, six of 18 from 3-point range. Bethel did hold a 41-32 rebounding edge. Bethel had nine shots blocked to two. Bethel also had 20 turnovers to 13 for GSU.

The Threshers fell behind 21-12 after the first quarter, but got back within five at the half, 33-28. Bethel was outscored 21-9 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth.

Tiana Mericle led 5-11 GSU with 18 points and seven blocked shots. Amber Brooks scored 17 points with 14 rebounds. Nijea Dixon scored 15 points.

Abby Schmidt led Bethel with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Bethel falls to 4-12 and hosts York College at 6 p.m. Wednesday. York is 4-10, 1-7 in KCAC play. The Panthers have lost their last three and have been off since Dac. 12.
