ELGIN, Ill. — The Bethel College women’s basketball team gave up a run to start the fourth quarter, falling to Judson University 71-55 Friday night at the Judson Classic.

Bethel finished the game 21 of 65 from the field for 32.3 percent. Bethel was just nine of 31 in the first half.

Judson finished 27 of 66 from the field, 18 of 36 in the second half. Bethel was outscored 15-3 from 3-point range.

Judson, 9-6, was led by Kayla Toussaint with 17 points, followed by Emylyn Wright and Starletta Keene with 10 points each.

Kylee Schunn led Bethel with 16 points, followed by Abby Schmidt with 15 points and eight rebounds. Schunn scored a career high.

Tied 6-6 with 6:01 left in the first quarter, Bethel was outscored 9-1 in the remaining time. Bethel was down by as many as 13 in the second quarter, but got back in the game at intermission, trailing 28-21.

The Threshers drew within three late in the third quarter, but Judson was able to pull away by six at the end of the period, 48-42.

Down by six 1:07 into the fourth quarter, Bethel gave up an 11-3 run. Judson led by as many as 18 down the stretch.

Bethel falls to 4-11 and ends classic play at 1 p.m. today in Elgin against Goverors State. The Jaguars are 4-12 after a 65-48 loss to Rochester College preceding Bethel’s game.
