With Christmas coming Monday, this is the last weekend prior to the big day to check out Christmas lights in the area. Here are three sure-fire hits, picked by the Newton Kansan staff.
1. Rosewood Court, Hesston.
Head down Rosewood Court in Hesston during the winter months and there’s a a block of house that you can’t miss. They glow, literally, with holiday spirit as part of a Christmas light display that was the brainchild of Austin Bollinger and his brothers, Nathan and Zach.
It started with Austin Bollinger and his family home. It has now grown to five houses using 100 extension cords, 50,000 lights and 6,000 channels to program a synchronized 30-minute musical program.
You can make a donation to the Salvation Army while there.
The Bollingers’ show — centered at 405 Rosewood Court, Hesston — goes from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The show will be ongoing through New Year’s Eve. Tune your radio to 98.9 FM for audio.
2. 1113 Harrison
First reported on by The Kansan in 2011, the show at 1113 Harrison is not one to be misssed.
The Williams family takes the three weekends before Thanksgiving to try and have the display ready for Thanksgiving night. The plan is to have the lights on display until just after New Year’s Day.
3. 610 E. Seventh
What do Mr. Incredible, Iron Man, Snoopy and Elsa from Frozen all have in common? They are all in the Martinez family's front yard this year to delight children in one of Newton's largest Christmas displays.
The Martinez Family has put together a yard-filling display for years, adding new things each year. This holiday display is a Newton tradition.
