PREP BOYS

Heart of America

Sterling 76, Moundridge 60

STERLING — The Moundridge Wildcat boys fell to Sterling 76-60 Tuesday in Heart of America League play in Sterling.

Moundridge fell behind 23-12 after the first quarter and 39-25 at the half.

“Got down early playing a pace more to Sterling's liking. They are a big, athletic and deep,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “They are everything that I thought they would be this year as they are picked to win the HOA. We had difficulty adjusting to the physicality of the game and had some untimely turnovers. Brady Helms did establish himself well in the paint at both ends of the floor as he continues to work hard to give us an inside presence. I will give our guys a lot of credit as we battled back several times to give us a chance.”

Lucas Briar scored 25 points for Sterling, 5-2, followed by Blake Richter with 16, Kenan Comley with 12 and Brady Myers with 10. John Schweitzer scored 10 points with 15 rebounds.

Brady Helms led Moundridge with 19 points, followed by Noah Eichelberger with 16 points and Dillon Vogts with 13 points and 11 assists.

Moundridge is 4-2 and hosts Berean Academy Jan. 5.

“The Christmas break will give us an oppotunity to work on more fundamentals and hopefully develop some more depth as our young guys gain confidence and we get some guys back healing up from injury,” Unrau said.
