"Discovery: A Comic Lament," will be presented at 7 p.m.  Nov. 19 in Krehbiel Auditorium on the Bethel College Campus. The play, which is based on "The Doctrine of Discovery," stars Ted Swartz and Michelle Milne, was written by Alison Brookins, is directed by Phil Weaver-Stoesz and produced by Ted & Co. in partnership with the Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery Coalition.

"The Doctrine of Discovery" is a set of ideas and laws declaring that the first European Christian country to discover a new land has a legal right to occupy indigenous lands and dominate indigenous peoples. These patterns of oppression, begun in the fifteenth century, are still used to justify slavery, genocide, land theft, resource extraction and environmental destruction to this very day.

Those familiar with other productions of Ted and Co. will be aware that even a subject as serious as this, will be treated with a delightful blend of humor, sensitivity and vision. There will be a time for discussion of the presentation, either during or after the production.

All seats are reserved and are $10 each. Tickets are available at the college bookstore or by calling 316-283-2500.

This production is sponsored by Faith Mennonite Church, Newton, along with Western District Conference, MCC Central States and Bethel College.
