Police investigated a threat made by a student against Chisholm Middle School Oct. 4.

“A 14-year-old student made threats about school violence about other students,” said Lt. Bryan Hall with the Newton Police Department.

Chisholm Middle School Administration and the Newton Police School Resource Officer were notified during the morning hours by students of the threats. An investigation was conducted, and the threat was not deemed credible.

“There was nothing to indicate that he was going to follow through with those statements, however, those kinds of threats are criminal,” Hall said. “The school resource officer will be handling this.”

Criminal charges could be pending.

Superintendent Deb Hamm told The Kansan that school administrators immediately investigated the threat, and called law enforcement when they were told of the threat by students.

"We took appropriate action and notified parents," Hamm said.
