Two candidates for the USD 373 Board of Education will not participate in a forum at Grand Central today, both citing prior commitments as a reason for not attending.
Jennifer Budde told The Kansan she has a "scheduling conflict" and will not be able to participate in the forum. Mallory Morton told The Kansan she has a "previous out of town commitment" and will not attend.
At 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 candidates for USD 373 School Board will take part in an open forum at Grand Central Senior Center’s Community Room, 122 E. Sixth.
The forum will be hosted by the center and moderated by the Newton Toastmaster Club.
There are six candidates, and no incumbents, running for three seats on the board of education. Candidates include Angela Becker, Andy Harder, David Oller, Toby Tyner, Morton and Budde. The top three finishers will be awarded a four-year term on the board.
Doors for the forum will open at 6:30 p.m. for a meet and greet with the candidates and at 6:45 the forum will start. During the forum, the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The forum for is open to the public.
Another forum is scheduled for next week. The Bluestem Communities Public Policy Committee will be hosting a Newton School Board candidate forum at 9 a.m. Sept. 28 at Kidron Bethel Village, 3001 Ivy Dr., North Newton.
