Kenton Fox, a senior at Newton High School, was recently awarded a scholarship to attend 2017 Youth Civic Leadership Institute at the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas in July .
A total of 64 students statewide were selected to participate in the three-day event at no charge.
High school juniors from across the state of Kansas were nominated by their high schools to attend the event, which featured a variety of speakers, outings and workshops focused on the importance of civic engagement in democracy. The program included a visit to the State Capitol in Topeka, where students had the opportunity to meet with state leaders and discuss current issues.
The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics is dedicated to promoting political and civic participation, civil discourse and public service in a bipartisan, philosophically balanced manner. It is located on KU’s West Campus and houses the Dole Archive and Special Collections.
