Traffic is backed up ion I-135 following an accident that sent one man to a Wichita hospital.
According to the Harvey County Sheriff's office, a Nissan Maxima struck a 42-year-old Kansas Department of Transportation worker who was working on the shoulder of the Interstate at about milepost 30 in the southbound lanes.
The KDOT worker was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, listed in critical condition. Law enforcement logs showed the man suffered a broken leg.
At least two other accidents occurred as a result, or very near to, the accident between the car and pedestrian.
Newton Police, Harvey County Sheriff's deputies, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Hesston Police and Newton Fire/EMS all responded to the scene.
