NRC to meet
The Newton Recreation Commission will meet at noon July 21 at the Newton Activity Center, 415 N. Poplar.
The board will host a budget hearing, elect board officers, review a strategic plan, hear an update on discussions with Grand Central, get an update on a bathroom project, discuss a contract extension to host the KSHSAA Eight Man Football Championships and have a period of public comment.
Federal funds available
Harvey County has been chosen to receive an additional $4,408 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area.
Under the terms of the Phase 34 grant from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program, local governmental or private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must: 1) be a non-profit organization, 2) have an accounting system, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board, and 6) have a DUNS number. Qualifying organizations are urged to apply.
Applications from eligible Harvey County agencies or programs must be returned to Harvey County United Way no later than 4 p.m. August 8. More information and an application is available from the Harvey County United Way, 103 E. Broadway.
