The post office has nothing on a 15-year-old Newton Kansan carrier and his bicycle.
While on his route, the minor who will not be identified, was struck by a car Friday afternoon while riding his bicycle. He was treated for minor injuries by Newton Fire/EMS, and in turn consulted with his mother, before he refused medical transport and went on with his route.
While southbound on Old Main Street, the carrier attempted to turn eastbound onto SE 12th. He was struck by a car from behind.
The accident was called into 911 at 2:27 p.m. Newton Fire/EMS and Newton Police responded to the call. According to 911, the carrier was up and walking at the time of the 911 call.
The newspaper carrier delivers the Kansan to about 30 locations each day.
