People of all ages are being invited to Grand Central Country Fair Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24.

Grand Central, located at 122 E. Sixth St. in Newton, serves as the senior center for area residents, hosting dance classes, pool lessons, game times and programs for anyone age 55 or older.

The event is meant to bring in dollars that will go towards Grand Central's operating and building maintenance costs.

"We're trying to still raise funds. This money will go into our heating and cooling fund," said Leslie Runnalls, director of Grand Central.

Runnalls and a cadre of volunteers are thinking outside the box, looking for ways to draw people of all ages into Grand Central to show them what the organization has to offer.

"We'd just like to get kids over here doing something — or even families," Runnalls said.

The Country Fair Fundraiser will feature entertainment including line dancers and kid's games, which can be played for a quarter apiece.

"We're all ready for them," Runnalls said.

Several tables of antiques for sale will be displayed at the Country Fair Fundraiser.

"We have some people bringing in their Depression glass," Runnalls noted. "They're going to see if they can sell some stuff."

Grand Central members are also putting their sewing skills to use and are creating items to sell.

"I have two ladies that are here regularly doing our sewing classes. They're doing some adorable aprons. They're really cute," Runnalls said.

One unique creation of the seamstresses are fabric bowls for the microwave.

"You can put your bowl in this cover, so when you take it out of the microwave, you're not going to burn your hands," Runnalls said.

Bake sale items and a raffle for gift baskets will also be available.

"We're doing about five different gift baskets and we've gotten some wonderful donations for those," Runnalls said.

Some of the gift certificates in the baskets can be redeemed for a 30-minute massage, pedicure, car detailing or meal at area restaurants such as Billy Sims BBQ and 701 Cafe.

A lunch meal of sloppy joes, hot dogs, baked beans, veggies, chips, brownies and drinks will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for an adult meal is $10, while a kid's meal is $5.
