It took a bit to find out if they would qualify, but members of the Chisholm Middle School Science Olympiad team are state bound.

The team competed in the Salina Regional in January, placing several events. The top finishers from Newton were second place in their events at that tournament.

On March 3, invitations went out for the state championship. The state competition will be April 1 at Wichita State University.

Science Olympiad events cover biology, physics, chemistry, earth science, engineering and inquiry. They range from pencil and paper “tests,” to performing lab experiments, to building a structure or robot. The competition features a total of 23 events.

The CMS team is coached by teacher Chelle Coffee.
