NEWTON —

The Division of Vehicles is in the process of modernizing its computer system.

The DMV Modernization Project will replace the current system, which is more than 20 years old.

A key piece of the implementation is data conversion from the old system to the new system.

Each time people visit their county treasurer’s office to do title and registration processing, they will be required to show their driver’s licenses.

If the vehicle is owned by a business, the business should show their FEIN documents. The name on the title will appear as it is on the driver’s license or FEIN documents.

The new system is customer centric, meaning vehicle and driver records are accessed and cross referenced.

Currently, several vehicles can be registered differently to the same person. Example John Q Public also could be John Public, Johnny Public, JQ Public or John Q Public.

Asking individuals to provide their driver’s license or FEIN documents will ensure consistency and sync up existing vehicle records.
