• Mary Bradshaw, for being nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year.

• McCurry Brothers from Sedgwick for winning the premier breeder title, reserve junior champion bull and junior bull calf champion at the Kansas State Fair Angus Show.

• Dustin Nattier, for participating in the Kansas FFA District Officer Conference.

• Bethel College, for receiving a grant from the State Library of Kansas.

• Army Spec. Kimmberly Thiel, for serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

• Kansas Learning Center for Health in Halstead, for receiving a Wal-Mart grant to implement a “Stranger Safety” program and a grant from Newton Medical Center to provide health education for area schools.

• Daniel Wagoner, for graduating from the Mars Academy at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center.

• Jan Plummer, for being selected as the District 4 Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year and being a finalist for the statewide award.

• Mandy Zinn, for being named director of food service for Newton public schools.

• Christine Downey-Schmidt, for being named the Newton Chamber Citizen of the Year.

• Invisible Fence of Central Kansas, for donating pet oxygen masks to Newton fire/EMS.

• Air Force Airman 1st Class Torey Griffith, for graduating from basic military training.
