The Newton USD 373 Board of Education on Monday discussed a proposal relating to sports teams at the high school and middle school levels.
The proposal states that if the number of students on an athletic team at those schools falls below the minimum number of athletes to field a team or below 10 people in each year for two years, the team will be eliminated.
Board members took no action on the proposal. The issue is expected to be discussed again at the board’s next meeting, which is at 7 p.m. Aug. 2.
Board members also approved an Eby Learning Center Student Handbook for 2010-2011; accepted the resignation of Shelli Elliott; and voted to hire Debra Harr as a speech and language pathologist.
