Bethel graduate conducting Wichita Symphony this weekend

The Wichita Symphony continues its 2009-2010 Classics Season at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Century II Concert Hall with a program featuring the orchestra’s music director designate Daniel Hege.

The orchestra will present Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, along with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 and Debussy’s Nocturnes and be joined by guest pianist Christopher Taylor and The Women of The Wichita Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

A graduate of Bethel College in North Newton, Hege was named music director designate of the Wichita Symphony in July.

He will take the podium as music director and conductor of the Wichita Symphony beginning with the 2010-2011 season.

He currently is music director and conductor of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in Syracuse, NY.

Tickets for the classics series, including Tchaikovksy’s Fateful 4th, are available by calling the Wichita Symphony box office at (316) 267-7658 or visiting the symphony offices on the second floor of Century II, suite 207. Tickets also may be purchased at www.wso.org.

Single tickets range in price from $20 to $42. Season tickets for the remaining Classics concerts still are available. Discounts are available for students, senior citizens and active military personnel.

Hege lives in Syracuse with his wife and three daughters.
