The Walton 21st Century Rural Life Center will showcase the school’s unique ag-technology integrated curriculum model and facilities during a public Visit Day from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Nov. 18. The open house will feature student-led tours of the facilities, including the green house and gardens, the new barn and its resident animals, classrooms and student projects.
The Walton 21st Century Rural Life Center is an elementary charter school open to all students, regardless of home location. Students learn state- approved standards through hands-on learning experiences that integrate the latest technology with agriculture-related activities and themes.
Walton students consistently score well above the state and national average on measured assessments and earned the Governor’s Award of Excellence in 2009, along with nine state Standards of Excellence on the 2009 state assessments. Walton teacher Kathy Murphy also was named the 2009 Kansas Ag Classroom Teacher of the Year.
