NEWTON —

Mollie Emerson from Newton was recently recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in leadership.

The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students, a news release said.

Emerson, who attends Newton High School, was nominated by counselor Charles Corely.

Emerson is the daughter of Julie Mills of Newton and granddaughter of Arnie and Joyce McCloud of Newton.
