NEWTON —

For the 16th year, The University of Kansas alumni in Harvey County have made it possible for financial scholarships to be awarded to Harvey County Kansas Honors Scholars, students in the top 10 percent of their senior class, who plan to attend The University of Kansas.

Three of the scholarships were presented the evening of April 28 at the Newton High School Senior Awards Night at Newton High School.

Those three are: Chelsea Gronau, daughter of Larry and Brenda Gronau; Natalie Hagman, daughter of Carl Hagman and Michelle Armbrister; and Clay Jarrell, son of Stan and Tracy Jarrell.

A scholarship was awarded May 6 to Halstead High School senior Murphy Kaufman, daughter of Von and Marla Kaufman. On May 7, a scholarship was awarded to Sedgwick High School senior Carly Adams, daughter of Shelly Adams.

All five awardees will become students at KU in the fall.

These five scholarships are made possible by contributions to the Kansas Honors Program by Harvey County KU alumni and friends of KU, said Sue Ice, Harvey County KPH coordinator. The contributions also helped underwrite the cost of the awards banquet last October, which recognized the academic top 10 percent of the seniors of all of the Harvey County high schools.
